Dr. Walt Mueller

(Tuesday Seminar Speaker)

Dr. Walt Mueller is the founder and President of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, a non-profit organization serving schools, churches, and community organizations across the U.S, Canada, and worldwide in their efforts to strengthen families by helping those who know and love children and teens to understand today’s rapidly changing youth culture.

Walt has been working with young people and families for over 40 years. He has appeared on numerous media outlets internationally to discuss teenagers and their world. He writes on youth culture and family issues and is the author of ten books, including his newest book, A Student’s Guide to Navigating Culture, is a regular contributor to a variety of magazines and journals, and is a blogger. Walt’s commentary and analysis on youth culture is heard on 800 radio stations across North America on CPYU’s daily radio program, Youth Culture Today and is the host of the “Youth Culture Matters” podcast.

Walt’s educational background includes research and studies in the disciplines of sociology, anthropology, theology, and postmodern generations.

Walt and his wife Lisa live in Elizabethtown - the home base of CPYU - and they have four grown children and seven grandchildren.
Walt wants people to know that his greatest joys have come as a dad. He is not an expert on any of these issues, but rather sees himself as a fellow struggler with other parents and grandparents who are endeavoring to understand the world of kids in order to provide solid guidance and direction in the midst of a very confusing world.

    Your Kitchen, Your Ministry

  • Christy Preston is a homeschooling mother of four who apparently thrives on chaos. Her husband, Joseph, is the Director of WLD Ranch, a Christian camp in Fairview, PA. While Christy grew up at WLD Ranch when her father served as Director (1977-2017), she fulfilled her wildest dream of working there full-time when she and Joseph joined WLD Ranch’s staff in 2002. Christy currently uses her education degree homeschooling her children (2 graduated, 2 to go) and developing curriculum for a variety of WLD Ranch’s programs, as well as teaching youth at Fairview Bible Church. • Zac Wilcox (Wilcox Consulting)

    Great Meetings

Too many meetings are preceded or followed by more meetings to set the stage or clarify something that was set. Too many meetings end without clear decisions being made, so confusion runs rampant. In this session, I'll give a framework for four different kinds of key meetings that you should be having in your camp to increase communication, clarity, and productivity, as well as how to start and end your meetings and who should be running the meeting.

    Organizational Transitions

Too often transition is handled poorly, and as a result takes a long time, results in less buy-in across the organization, and people struggle to move on. This is usually because the first emphasis is put on the new beginning - whatever the new thing is that's coming that is being shifted into. As well intentioned as this is, the new is the last place that we get to in healthy transition. In this session I will help you understand the three phases of healthy transition and how to navigate them well in your camp - whether it's a new hire, a new summer theme, or a camper registration method.

  • Zac started his career in camping when he got a job at Hume Lake Christian Camps in California. He worked a variety of jobs over the years there from program, to food service, to support service, to maintenance, finally ending up in the concessions department where during the summer he supervised a staff of 30-40 people in five different buildings. It was at Hume that his passion for team building, leadership, strategy, and team development really got a hold of him and led him to starting his own company in early 2020. These days Zac works with the leadership and teams of organizations across the United States in churches, construction, healthcare, financial institutions, and nonprofits. His goal is to help leaders create organizations in which none of their employees are going home miserable because that impacts their self-esteem, mental health, families, friends, and overall satisfaction in life.
